![]() Typically, RTMP allows for lower latency but HLS has adaptive bitrate streaming which means that it can adjust the video quality to accommodate any fluctuations in the viewer’s internet connection. After encoding, it will deliver your live video in one of two formats- RTMP (Real-Time Messaging Protocol) or HLS (HTTP Live Streaming). The streaming software (one of the two types of streaming encoders) is responsible for the encoding of your live stream. ![]() Your camera produces a raw video signal which has to be encoded in order to be broadcast over the web. We’ll answer these questions, but first let’s set some things straight. So many options… Can you use the free OBS or do you need a premium solution like Wirecast? What should you look for when choosing streaming video software? Is this app even worth messing with anymore, or am I just delaying the inevitable by not switching to something else for my streaming needs?ĭo you recommend something else? I use a Blackmagic Quad HDMI capture card, with a Rodecaster pro and feed all that into LSS studio on a 2018 Macbook pro with spec'd out graphics card, processor and ram.One of the big hurdles for first-time streamers is the live streaming software. It seems silly for Vimeo to give up on this thing now doesn't it? Have they gone all in on consumer level streaming and given up on the higher level use cases? When compared to some of the workarounds I see people using to accomplish some of the things I do easily in LSS I wonder why this software does not get more love and support. Specifically the live connection to Google sheets, and flexibility of inputs is great, and I honestly love the interface and most of the controls compared to much of the other tools I have experimented with recently. Not that I think it should be getting all the attention, but shouldn't it be getting some?Ī lot of the functionality is hard to replicate with other systems I have tried. When I see write ups about the best (or even just any) streaming software, it never mentions LSS which surprises me. But since then, there seems to be essentially zero content from Vimeo, or even random YouTubers. Back when the HD550 was actually a cutting edge computer. When I search online for content about it, I find nothing but 5+ year old content from when their hardware line was first launched. Used to be that every time I logged in there was a notice about a new software update but I honestly can't remember the last time I saw something like this.Īt one point I thought the updates were annoying, now I long for some kind of signal that this software is not dead. However, it's been a long time since I've logged in and gotten a notice about updates to the software and it seems to be getting less and less attention from Vimeo. I've been using LSS from (Vimeo) for years, and honestly, I think it's mostly fantastic.
